China must be paradise for Android tablet lovers. For the Chinese market Prowave, a company in Shanghai, created a tablet under the OEM name Mastone. Being spotted at the Freescale semiconductor company booth at MWC 2010 and at CES 2010 the reporting websites like slashgear.net and armdevices.net call it the Mastone Prowave or just the Prowave. And that tablet is a real beast. Look at the video that Charbax from armdevices.net made at the MWC 2010:
and there’s another video from netbooknews.com on Youtube.
Here come the specifications as far as I found them out:
|Processor||ARM Cortex A8 Freescale i.MX515 Platform (up to 1 GHz)|
|Screen||unknown, but seems to be min. 7-Inch / restistive touchscreen (according to slashgear.net)|
|Storage||built-in ??? / SD Card|
|A/V Input||Front Camera / Audio In|
|A/V Output||Speakers / Headset Connector|
|Network||WLAN / 3G / (maybe also Bluetooth, there’s a BT App visible)|
|Connectors||micro USB / DC Input|
|Extras||Android 1.6 / Customized Home Screen / Metal brushed design / SD Card Slot|
|Price Range||(Steve from Freescale thinks that it will be a “very popular price”)|
|Manufacturer / Distributor||Prowave / Mastone|
Unfortunately I couldn’t find out more details about this product. Mastone has no infos yet on their site and chinese websites do not know more than slashgear.net and armdevices.net. I really hope this will not just be another reference design and that it won’t come out in chinese language only. The best thing about this device is it’s speed and it’s design. Design seems to be pretty solid and the metal look is fine. If you check out Charbax’ video above you’ll see that it is really fast – snappy as Steve in the video says.
I ask myself why we can’t buy such tablets yet. They seem to be working, so where can I buy one? Don’t leave this business to Apple…
