German electronics distributor redcoon.de confirmed in an answer to an email request I made, that they expect the Archos 7 Home Tablet, the new 7-Inch Android tablet form Archos, to arrive on April 8, 2010. They will sell it for 195€ (263$) and ship it within 1-2 days (in Germany).  They also confirmed that it is the new Android version, so it’s really the Archos 7 Home Tablet and not the older non-Android device.

This means that Archos will sell their devices in Europe some weeks before the iPad hits the European markets towards the end of April. Will see how good they will sell their device.

For the specs of the Archos 7 HomeTablet, see my earlier post. Also note, that there is a version of the Archos 7 Android tablet coming to India in a special version, the iProf.

On March 23, 2010, Archos also released a firmware upgrade for the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. That upgrade fixes some bugs, adds support for the HDMI minidock and adds a deep sleep mode triggered by a long press on the power button that suppresses it from waking up by alarms. For more details, see changelog of the Archos 5 Internet Tablet firmware.

But still, Archos 5 Internet Tablet users will have to wait longer for an upgrade to Android 2.1.

UPDATE May 6, 2010: Yes, I admit, I was wrong when I announced the Archos 7 Home Tablet for April in Germany. The distributor misinformed me! But now we have it black on white from Archos: The Archos 7 Home Tablet comes in June 2010, see press bulletin. Better late than never!
